About Shinnyo-en

Shinnyo-en is an international spiritual community founded on the wisdom and compassion embodied in the Buddha’s teachings.

The Shinnyo Masters established a path by which anyone can find liberation and awakening. This is not a path that is open only to a select few or only to monastic practitioners, but rather, one that is open to all.

Together with Shinnyo-en’s unique form of meditation, the Three Practices form the foundation of our spiritual path. They help us grow, act with compassion and wisdom in our life.

Master Shinjo Ito, born Fumiaki Ito on March 28, 1906, in Akita, Japan, began his adult life as an engineer. But in 1936, he made a life-changing decision, leaving behind his comfortable lifestyle to dedicate himself fully to Buddhist training at Daigoji monastery in Kyoto.

In Buddhism, Dharma Transmission signifies that a person is established as a successor in an unbroken lineage or line of teachers and disciples.

Carrying forward the vision of Master Shinjo and Tomoji Ito, she continues to shape Shinnyo-en as a path that is not only rooted in Buddhist tradition, but also relevant to the challenges of modern life.

Story

Shinnyo-en Singapore

Shinnyo-en Singapore’s first sanctuary was dedicated in November 1994. Inspired by the teachings of our founding masters, we strive to promote peace and mutual understanding in everyday life—at home, in school, at work, and in the wider community.

As a registered charitable organisation under Singapore’s Charities Act (Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth), we are committed to nurturing harmony and respect across all walks of life. Through spiritual practice and interaction with those around us, we aim to build bridges across faiths and within society.
